This region covers several countries and thus geological maps have different scale and errors in locations. The mismatch between fault traces in geological maps with their actual position on the ground is sometimes up to several hundred meters. The main goal of this study was to prepare continues map of active faults together with seismicity for the entire region of interest. This map also shows the slip rate of the active faults, estimated based on available geodetic measurements (GPS) or other published data. All available information including geological maps, satellite images, topographic data, GPS measurements, and earthquake data were imported into Arc GIS system. The Landsat 7 satellite images were used to correct location of active faults and measuring young offsets along the faults. Most of active faults bound the mountains implying that they control current topography of the region. The earthquakes are more frequent in the Zagros, especially in western part, around junction of the North and East Anatolian faults. This is in contrast with the Dead Sea region where lower seismic activity observed. However larger earthquakes are distributed over entire region, though we have more record of historical earthquakes in NW Iran, Eastern Turkey and the Dead Sea region probably related to documentation of historical data rather than occurence of earthquakes. In the eastern Zagros (NW of Iran) total shortening is partitioned into pure strike-slip and thrusting. In the middle part (eastern Turkey) the Zagros trends east-west and most of shortening is taken up by pure thrusting. The Central and Eastern Turkey is dominated by strike-slip faults and rotation of blocks. Shortening across left-lateral and right-lateral systems in eastern Turkey cause the Turkish block to move to the west and subduct in Hellenic trench.  Comparing rate of shortening with moment released by earthquakes in Zagros and Caucuses suggest that part of shortening is taking up by creep.}, keywords = {Western Middle East,Active faults,Slip Rate,Remote Sensing,Seismicity}, title_fa = {گسل‌های جنبای بنیادی و توان لرزه‌زایی آنها در خاورمیانه باختری}, abstract_fa = {در این پژوهش مطالعه‌ گسل‌های فعال در خاورمیانه‌ باختری از دریای مازندران در خاور تا دریای مدیترانه در باختر انجام گرفت. هدف اصلی تهیه‌ نقشه‌ یکنواخت از لرزه‌خیزی و گسل‌های منطقه بوده است. نقشه‌های زمین‌شناسی موجود از کشور‌های مختلف مقیاس‌های متفاوت و خطاهای گوناگون در تعیین موقعیت گسل‌ها دارند که گاه تا صدها متر می‌رسد. در این پژوهش، گسل‌های فعال از دیگر گسل‌ها تفکیک شد و بر اساس مطالعه تصاویر ماهواره‌ای، نقشه‌های زمین‌شناسی موجود و داده‌های ژئودتیک، ارتباط ساختاری گسل‌ها و نرخ حرکت آنها تعیین شد. تمام داده‌های موجود ضمن وارد نمودن به سامانه اطلاعات جغرافیایی به مختصات جغرافیایی یکسان تبدیل شد و پس از آن با استفاده از تصاویر ماهواره‌ای جزییات بیشتری از گسل‌ها مورد بررسی قرار گرفت و جابه‌جایی‌های جوان آنها شناسایی ‌شد. بیشتر گسل‌ها‌ی فعال در لبه ارتفاعات قرار می‌گیرندکه تأییدی بر جوان بودن منطقه و کنترل توپوگرافی به‌وسیله‌ گسل‌های فعال است. بیشترین فعالیت لرزه‌ای مربوط به زون زاگرس و محل تلاقی گسل‌های شمال و خاور آناتولی است ولی زمین لرزه‌های بزرگ دستگاهی در سرتاسر گستره دیده می‌شوند. زون گسل‌های امتدادلغز بحرالمیت نسبت به دیگر بخش‌ها فراوانی کمتر زمین‌لرزه‌ها را نشان می‌دهد. بیشتر زمین لرزه‌های تاریخی در شمال‌باختری ایران و خاور ترکیه و بحرالمیت دیده می‌شوند که به نظر می‌رسد در ارتباط با تمرکز جمعیت و ثبت بهتر زمین لرزه‌ها در این مناطق باشد. در زاگرس خاوری (شمال باختری ایران) کوتاه‌ شدگی به دو مؤلفه‌ راندگی و امتداد لغز تفکیک شده است. در بخش میانی منطقه کوتاه‌شدگی به‌طور عمده به وسیله‌ گسل‌های راندگی انجام می‌گیرد. بخش باختری (خاور ترکیه) این منطقه محل تلاقی گسل‌های امتدادلغز و چرخش بلوک‌هاست، بنابراین کوتاه‌شدگی به وسیله‌ حرکت در راستای گسل‌های راست‌گرد و چپ‌گرد انجام می‌گیرد. در خاور ترکیه عملکرد دو گسل شمال و خاور آناتولی موجب حرکت به سوی باختر ترکیه و در نهایت فرورانش آن در زون هلنیک می‌شود. با توجه به عدم تناسب نرخ کوتاه‌شدگی در زاگرس و قفقاز با فراوانی زمین‌لرزه‌ها به نظر می رسد که بخشی از کوتاه‌شدگی به صورت خزش اتفاق می‌افتد. }, keywords_fa = {خاورمیانه‌ باختری,گسل‌های فعال,نرخ لغزش,سنجش از دور,لرزه‌خیزی}, url = {http://www.gsjournal.ir/article_41773.html}, eprint = {http://www.gsjournal.ir/article_41773_f96adff6efe6a14e32d5068621ccc416.pdf} }
