Abstract
This investigation makes an assessment that the swarm of earthquakes, which occurred in and around Garmsar, during the four months of the year 1988, is the result of the Kelers reverse fault. Because, the focal points of these earthquakes are compatible with the fault data obtained, regardless of the possible errors made in interpretation, but nevertheless this precautionary evaluation of data may be acceptable.
On the other hand, the determined mechanisms for these earthquakes shows a compressional trend and dipping towards the north, being accompanied with strike-slip as shown by the Kelers Fault. 449
Moreover, field observation on the manner in which joints and superficial deposits are formed, are indicative of reactivated Kelers Fault. In addition, based on evidences discussed in the text, it is assumed that the above-mentioned fault has had also role (s) in bringing about the earthquakes in the 20th century as well as historical ones.
