Abstract
Talkheh Rud is an intermountain basin located within the magmatic arcs of Eocene and late Tertiary age. Cumulative frequency variations of elements such as Uranium, copper, Molybdenum, Vanadium and Cobalt show that mineralization occurred in the Neogene stratigraphic sequence of this basin in the region between cities of Tabriz and Ahar.
A strong dependency between Uranium, Copper, Molybdenum and Vanadium was observed in the coarse clastic beds in Omidcheh area, indicating that the sandstone- type Uranium deposits are post- depositional and of epigenetic origin- While mineralization in Govarchin Carbonaceous shales had taken place during depositional period and syngenetic in nature.
Uranium and other accompanying metallic elements appear to have been leached out of plutonic and volcanic sources in the vicinity of the basin and subsequently deposited in reducing environment dominated on meandering rivers and deltaic sediments.
