چکیده

براساس مطالعات سنگ‌شناسی، سازند چلکن در ناحیه دشت گرگان در برش مورد مطالعه به دو واحد ماسه‌سنگ پایین و مادستون بالایی تقسیم شده است. مطالعات پتروگرافی بیانگر ترکیب لیت‌آرنایت (کالک‌آرنایت) و ساب‌لیت‌آرنایت با بلوغ بافتی و ترکیبی پایین برای ماسه‌سنگ‌ها است. نهشته‌های کنگلومرا نیز در این سازند در برش مورد مطالعه از نوع ارتوکنگلومرای پلی‌میکتیت و متشکل از خرده‌های متنوع کربنات و چرت تعیین شده است. وجود تخلخل قابل توجه به فرم های حفره‌ای، کانالی و شکستگی در نهشته‌های ماسه‌سنگ و کنگلومرا و حتی گل‌سنگ استعداد بالای این رسوبات را به عنوان سنگ مخزن نشان داده و ضرورت انجام مطالعات اکتشافی در بخش ایرانی خزر جنوبی را مطرح می‌نماید. بر اساس جوان‌ترین نانوفسیل‌های یافت شده در سازند چلکن، سن نسبی این سازند در ناحیه مورد مطالعه انتهای میوسن تا پلیوسن میانی (؟) تعیین شده است. گسترش نانوفسیل‌های آهکی نشان‌دهنده وجود ارتباط بین حوضه خزر جنوبی با دریای سیاه و حوضه مدیترانه در انتهای میوسن- ابتدای پلیوسن و ایتدای پلئیستوسن و عدم ارتباط در بخش عمده دوره پلیوسن است که برای اولین بار در این مطالعه مطرح می‌شود.
