Abstract
In order to study the micropaleontology and biostratigraphy of Sarvak Formation, three stratigraphic sections in Fars and Khuzestan were compared with each other.
One of these sections is the type section of Sarvak Formation which is located in the Bangestan Mountain (57 Km north of Behbahan). The location of two other sections is close to each other and situated in the Jahrom mountains region (23 Km. far from Jahrom in Fars province).
At the studied regions, Sarvak Formation overlies conformably the Kazhdomi Formation and is diconformably underlain by the Ilam (in Fars) and the Gurpi Formation (in Khuzestan).
From the micropaleontological point of view 780 thin sections were carefully studied. Within determination of the Cenomanian Foraminiferal species presence of the genus Choffatella was also noticed in the deposits of this stage (Sarvak Formation, Fars Province). This finding is interesting as it is for the first time that the vertical range of this genus is extended so high in this country.
Meanwhile, the form which previously used to be called Genus 8 sp2 has been identified as Reticulinella reicheli.
Also, several index Cenomanian microfossils of the Mediterranean Region are identified and recorded from Iran for the first time.
