چکیده

رشته کوه البرز در شمال ایران بخشی از همگرایی بین ایران مرکزی و اوراسیا را در خود جای داده است. سازوکارکنونی آن شامل سازوکاری از تقسیم‌شدگی کرنش به همراه چرخش ساعتگرد حوضه خزر جنوبی است. گسلش راستالغز چپ‌گرد و در امتداد کلی بخش داخلی البرز و گسلش معکوس مرزهای شمالی و جنوبی آن را تحت تأثیر قرار می‌دهد. پیش از این، پژوهش‌هایی چند به نرخ لغزش گسل‌های فعال در قسمت‌های داخلی و جنوبی پرداخته است. این پژوهش، داده‌های جدیدی از چند و چون فعالیت این راندگی فعال و مهم را درجنوب کاسپین فراهم می‌کند. نشان می‌دهیم که گسل به طور کلی یک گسل پنهان است، که اغلب با ساختارهای چین و خم گسلی و گسلش پیشرونده همراه است. در قسمت مرکزی گسل درنزدیکی چمستان، سن‌سنجی رادیوکربن بر یک پادگانه قدیمی فراز یافته امکان تخمین کمینه لغزش عمودی 0.5 ±2.0 میلی متر در سال را فراهم می‌کند. با در نظر گرفتن شیب 34 درجه‌ای برای گسل کمینه نرخ لغزش افقی 3 میلی‌متر و حداقل نرخ لغزش در درازای صفحه گسلی تا 3.6 میلی‌متر بر سال خواهد بود. این نتایج تأییدی است بر خطر لرزه‌ای قابل توجه گسل خزر به عنوان یک ساختار گسلی سترگ و فعال در گستره‌ی البرز.
